This is a short story of how Double Edged Sword was born. One weekend at a youth retreat at Tuscarora 2001 Joe, Dan, and Mark decided it was high time for a good band that loves Jesus to invade Long Island. In about June of 2001, D2ES had their first practice ever, playing only one song the entire time with two guitarists, an emcee, and an 80's beatbox they borrowed from their youth pastor (thanks Bert!). "Light the Fire" was that song. It happened to be a cover, so they dreamt of one day writing their own songs. They had no band name yet, so decided to name it "The 3 Crates" for kicks because Joe, Dan, and Mark all had "Crate" amps. No PA, no mics, just amps. So later they wrote a few songs, being called of course, "Inconsistency," "Another Nail," "Suicide Note," and "Pain of Surprise." Now they were rolling, but didn't have a name quite yet (or a drummer or bassist for that matter). One summer night, just before college for Mark and Dan they sat down and all wrote down names they would like to be, such as "The David Crowder Band," "Thanx," etc. They finally decided on "Double Edged Sword" and were extemely happy with it. In college, D2ES acquired an old friend, RJ for bass. Now they needed a drummer. They were practicing one night at church, and God dropped somebody that would change their lives forever in the front pew... Tom. He decided he would try the band out, and when he did, he loved it! D2ES was finally a band. A few more practices and they had their first show, exactly a year after they decided to start playing together at Tuscarora 2002. That summer, RJ had to miss practices because of a hefty work schedule, and so Tom's bro, Rob, filled in (which also brought keyboard abilities along). D2ES was complete. The band played during the summer and found many hookups since then. D2ES now hopes to keep playing for God, keeping their heads up, and their eyes straight on Him.
